Races at Churchill Downs:

Ascot Racecourse and Jockey Club Racecourses are delighted to reinforce historic links with America from 2024 with an exciting new runners initiative in partnership with Churchill Downs.

For three-year-old fillies, a runner from the Edgewood Stakes, (Grade 2, 1m 0.5f, $500,000), run on Kentucky Oaks Day (Friday 3rd May) will receive an entry and a travel incentive to run in the Betfred Oaks (Group 1, 1m 4f, £500,000) at Epsom Downs on Ladies Day (Friday 31st May).

For three-year-old colts, a runner from the American Turf Stakes, (Grade 2, 1m 0.5f. $500,000), run on Kentucky Derby Day (Saturday 4th May), will receive an entry and a travel incentive to run in The Betfred Derby Epsom Downs (Group 1, 1m 4f, £1,500,000) on Derby Day (Saturday 1st June).

A runner from the Twin Spires Turf Sprint Stakes, (Grade 2, 3yo+, 5.5f, $500,000) will receive an entry and a travel incentive to run in the King Charles III Stakes (Group 1, 3yo+ 5f, £650,000) at Royal Ascot (Tuesday 18th June).

A runner from the Old Forester Turf Classic Stakes, (Group 1, 4yo+, 1m1f $1,000,000) will receive an entry and a travel incentive to run in either of the Queen Anne Stakes (Group 1, 4yo+. 1m, £750,000, Tuesday 18th June) or the Prince of Wales’s Stakes (Group 1, 4yo+, 1m2f, £1,000,000, Wednesday 19th June) at Royal Ascot.

Races at Gulfstream Park:

Winners of the Royal Palm Juvenile Stakes and Royal Palm Juvenile Fillies’ Stakes at Gulfstream Park (Saturday 11th May) each earn an automatic wild card into any one of the six two-year-old races at Royal Ascot with a $25,000 equine travel allowance paid. 2023 saw Crimson Advocate win the Royal Palm Juvenile Fillies’ Stakes and then go on to win the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot.

The Jockey Club operates 15 racecourses staging 103 of the 292 UK Flat Pattern and Listed Races, 14 of the 36 Group 1s and four of the five Classics. Prize money for 2024 across our 342 fixtures totals nearly £60 million. Many of racing’s most historic and prestigious prizes are staged at the likes of Epsom Downs, Newmarket’s two racecourses – The Rowley Mile and The July Course – Sandown Park and Haydock Park. The Jockey Club host the 1,000 and 2,000 Guineas, The Derby and The Oaks, The July Cup, The Eclipse and The Sprint Cup – all races with significant history, prize money and international pedigree.

Royal Ascot will be worth a record £10m in prize money in 2024 with all Group 1 races run for a minimum of £650,000. 

American-trained horses have a rich history of success at Royal Ascot and Ascot Racecourse welcome all enquiries concerning potential contributions towards the cost of transport.

Ascot will contribute towards the cost of transport for 115+ rated horses travelling to the UK from outside of Europe to compete specifically in Group One races at Ascot. Ascot offers connections of each travelling horse an agreed ‘all in’ travel allowance and more information can be found in the International Races brochure.
