FOCUS ON THE TATTERSALLS OCTOBER YEARLING SALE

The Tattersalls October Yearling Sale takes place from Tuesday 4th October through to Saturday 15th October at Park Paddocks in Newmarket, with Book 2 taking centre stage to start this second week of the sale.


In 2022 so far, graduates of the October Yearling Sale Book 2 have won 29 Group races in eight countries, including six Group 1 races.

Book 2
10th – 12th October
Commencing at 10am (BST)


Book 2 has been a consistent source of Classic and Group 1 winners and 2022 was no exception with five winners of six Group 1 races. This included The Derby winner DESERT CROWN, Hong Kong Queen Elizabeth II Cup winner ROMANTIC WARRIOR and Royal Ascot winner STATE OF REST.

The sale has been the source of 16 winners of 26 Group 1 races since 2020. In 2022, there have already been 24 Group-winning graduates of the sale.

This year’s catalogue includes 181 half‐siblings to Group & Listed winners and 132 sons and daughters of Group & Listed winning mares.

Top sires are well represented in Book 2, with the catalogue featuring 23 of the current top 25 sires in Britain and Ireland, including FRANKEL, GALILEO, KINGMAN and SEA THE STARS. Book 2 also offers multiple yearlings from the leading European two-year-old sire by number of wins, HAVANA GREY.

Books 3 & 4
13th – 15th October

Commencing at 10am (BST)

Book 3 is the source of 2022 Group 1 winner KNIGHTS ORDER, who was purchased for 6,000gns and is an overall three-time Group winner in Australia. Last year's renewal featured LEZOO, recent winner of Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes.

The sale has been the source of 53 Group/Listed winners globally since 2020.

This year’s Book 3 sale offers yearlings by top class stallions such as NATHANIEL, OASIS DREAM and SHOWCASING. Those stallions have sired the 2022 Derby winner DESERT CROWN, triple Group 1 winner NATIVE TRAIL, and 32 Group winners including three Group 1s, respectively.

All yearlings sold in Books 3 and 4 of the October Yearling Sale are eligible for the £150,000 Tattersalls October Auction Stakes, held at Newmarket’s Rowley Mile Racecourse at the start of October each year.
