GBRI is on hand to support international buyers at the British breeze up sales. If you wish to enquire, please contact Amanda Prior, Client Relations Manager on aprior@greatbritishracing.com.

This month, the curtain will be raised on the European Breeze Up Sale season and all eyes will fall on Tattersalls and Goffs UK, as owners flock to buy race-ready two-year-old prospects.

Graduates of the Tattersalls and Goffs UK breeze up sales have played a leading role in the two-year-old races at Royal Ascot and across Britain’s other summer festivals in recent years.

Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sale

The Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sale kicks off proceedings on 11th April, with breezes scheduled for 9.30am on the Newmarket Rowley Mile gallops ahead of two evenings of action in the ring at Park Paddocks on the 12th and 13th from 5.30pm. The catalogue can be found here.

Native Trail was the star graduate of the 2021 Craven Breeze Up Sale, completing the season with two Group 1 wins and the title of Champion European Two-Year-Old Colt. Breeders’ Cup performer and Group 2 winner Go Bears Go, as well as fellow Group 2 laureate Asymmetric, were also sourced from last year’s Craven catalogue.

The Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sale offers buyers two bonus incentives:

• £250,000 Royal Ascot / Group 1 Bonus – more information can be found here

• £15,000 Craven Breeze Up Bonus – more information can be found here

If you cannot travel to Newmarket for the Craven Sale, easy and secure online bidding is available. Find more information and register to bid or log in here.

Goffs UK Breeze Up Sale

Goffs UK takes centre stage on the 19th – 21st April for what is now considered the Royal Ascot breeze up sale for the fact that it has been the source of six Royal Ascot winners over the last six years. As Goffs UK Managing Director Tim Kent explains, “If you are looking for a Royal Ascot winner at the European Breeze-Up Sales in 2022, Doncaster is the place to find them.”

Perfect Power is the latest Royal Ascot winner to have been purchased at the sale. The son of 2021 freshman sire sensation Ardad won the Group 2 Norfolk Stakes less than two months after being sold last April. He subsequently went on to win two Group 1 races within five months of selling to Sheikh Rashed Dalmook Al Maktoum.

Other notable graduates from last year include Group 3 winners Twilight Jet and Light Infantry. In 2019, the Goffs UK Breeze Up Sale featured A’Ali, who won three Group 2s in the same year before adding two more Group races to his record in 2020. A’Ali now stands as a first-season stallion at Newsells Park Stud.

The breeze will commence at 12 noon on the 19th and the sale starts at 10am on the 21st. The catalogue can be accessed here.

If you cannot travel to Doncaster for the Goffs UK Breeze Up Sale, easy and secure online bidding is available. Find more information and register to bid or log in here.

Tattersalls Guineas Breeze Up Sale

Tattersalls will round out the British breeze up sales with the Guineas Breeze Up Sale on the 26th – 28th April: a perfect precursor to the opening Classic meeting of the British Flat season, the Guineas Festival at Newmarket. The catalogue can be viewed here.

The two-year-olds will breeze as from 9am on the 26th and the sale will be staged at 9.30am on the 28th. Recent Group 1 winning graduates include Trueshan and Shantisara.

The Guineas sale also includes a draft of horses in training, giving an option for buyers who might be inclined to purchase a horse with a race record or at an advanced training stage. This catalogue can be accessed here.

If you cannot travel to Newmarket for the Guineas Sale, easy and secure online bidding is available. Find more information and register to bid or log in here.

Finding an agent

British-based bloodstock agents will be delighted to receive enquiries from any prospective buyers unable to buy at the breeze up sales themselves. You can find a directory of accredited agents here or head to the Federation of Bloodstock Agents website for full details of the FBA’s code of working ethics, integrity and commitment to acting in the best interests of the client at all times.
